KASTURBA GANDHI BALIKA VIDYALAYA(KGBV)

       Kasturba Gandhi Balika vidyalaya is a targeted scheme, which provides for residential schools at Upper primary level (Classes VI to VIII) for girls belonging predominantly to SC, ST, and Minority Community.

       This scheme will function in the low literacy rate Block. The Block whose rural female literacy rate is lower than the National rural female literacy rate and the gender gap of the block is above the National Gender gap.

      The main aim of this programme/ Scheme is to mainstream the backward girls in school, to increase the quality education of girls to create girls friendly environment in schools, to create awareness among the community members for girls education.

      In Dhenkanal District one KGBV has been sanctioned and it is functioning smoothly in Dangapal UPS. which has now been converted to High School. For the year 2009-10 the sanctioned student strength was 100 but due to some local problem only 99 students are reading there. One fresh proposal is also given for one more KGBV at Hindol Block.

Total 18.78 budgets have been prepared for the year 2009-10. for Kankadahad Block.  In KGBV the following Staff are engaged.

Remarkable changes are marked in the students of KGBV. They are now engaged in Vocational work like preparation of Candle, Instant stick, Phynale making, they have also learnt dance.

VISION :-

The vision of the district is to reduce 5% of drop out and 5% of gender gap. To achieve the above vision the following activities have been planned to take up:

Maintenance per Girls :-

In KGBV there is a provision of Rs 750/- per girls per month for their maintenance. Out of this Rs 750/-every month they will get food to eat and other consumable items for their day to day use.

Stipend for Girls :-

There is provision of Stipend for girls per month. This Stipend amount will be deposited and it will be given to the inmates after they complete the studies.

Supplementary TLM, Stationery and Other Educational Materials:

Supplementary TLM, Stationery and Other Educational Materials will be provided to the girls with a that they were dropout because of lack of these materials and as they are staying in the hostel these materials need to be provided to them so that they will gain more interest for studies.

 Vocational Training :-

Along with studies there is need to provide vocational training to the inmates of KGBV so that after completion of Education in the School they can be self dependant and this parents will not consider members of their family.

Electricity and water charges:

 Preparatory Camps :-

          Parents are reluctant to send their girls for further Studies because of lack of motivation awareness among parents and ignorance. The preparatory camps will be organized for motivating the parents to send their girls for further higher Studies.

PTA/School function :-

         Girl’s talent go unnoticed need to organize different competition and after competition the talented Students Should be awarded with prize for the above programme there is need to organize School function. The talents of the students and their results and other activities should be discussed with the parents for which there is need for organizing PTA meeting.

Capacity Building : -

           For smooth functioning of KGBV there is need to build the capacity of the students and staff. They will be trained on different types of teachers training module, life skill module, sikha ,Meena training module. To build up their capacity it is required to involve the DIET faculty.
