Kalyan Samiti/ Village Health Sanitation Committee (VHSC)
: Under
communitisation approach, NRHM intends to form and strengthen Village Health and
Sanitation Committee in all revenue villages. These Village Health and
Sanitation Committees known as Gaon Kalyan Samiti (GKS) will take care of
different health issues of
community.
Dhenkanal initiated
a public campaign ( 11th July-2nd October 2008) to
activate the process for formation of GKS in every revenue village in Dhenkanal
district.All the stakeholders were sensitized on GKS and its relevance in the
community.
Achievement:
-
Mass
awareness about the Gaon Kalyan Samiti has increased among the people in rural
areas.

Banks have
co-operated the block in opening of the bank account of GKS.
-
The meetings have been organised in community on Gaon Kalyan Samiti.

Out of
1076 revenue villages, total 909 GKS have been formed
-
636 GKS
have opened their bank accounts in different banks
Swasthya Kalyan Rath Campaign
With the
objective of strengthening the Gaon Kalyan samiti in each revenue village a
special Swasthya Kalyan Rath campaign was launched on 26th January 2009
and at DHH continued upto 25th February 2009 to form and sensitize the Gaon Kalyan samiti
in all revenue villages.
During Ratha
capmaign the three Swasthya Kalyan Rath were used .
NGOs, PRIs, SHG group members, Youth groups staffs
from health deptt,. women & child development, Panchayatiraj, Rural
development have actively participated in the campaign.

During Ratha
visit to different areas, special meetings were organised with
GKS members, PRI etc and new GKS were formed in the revenue village, accounts
opened and the fund of Rs 10,000/- were tranferred to all the GKS accounts.

Orientation
Programme of GKS
To develop
the capacity building of the GKS members, the orientation programme of GKS of
Sadar block were organised by NGO named as SOVA. The ward member and Angan Wadi
workers GKS were oriented on the Village health plan, Financial
guidelines, meeting resolution etc. Likewise, the orientation programme was
organised in Odapada, Gandia, by CISS and CHETANA respectively. The Angan wadi
workers and AWW of total 85 GKS were oriented . In all these programme, the block
and district level personnel facilitated the training.
